Wall Street banks and automakers aren't the
only ones looking for a Washington
bailout. Dennis Hof owner of the Moonlight
Bunny Ranch is heading to Washington to ask for
a $1 billion bailout for the brothel industry.
This sounds like one of Hof's publicity
stunts, but he says he has a serious goal. He is
on a mission to prove a point about all the
Washington bailouts.
"Are people going to take me seriously on
this? Probably not, but it shows the craziness
of it all. What happened to the old
fashioned way? Go out of business.
(Declare) bankruptcy." Hof said. "If the Bunny
Ranch had a problem and we weren't running our
business properly, and we overextended
ourselves, we'd just go out of business. What
happened to that?"
Hof has made some adjustments to how he does
business at the Bunny Ranch to make sure it
survives this recession. He just finished
a nationwide PR tour to promote the brothel
industry and his employees say customer service
is more important now than ever before.
One of Hof's working girls Air Force Amy says
she's had her best year ever and other companies
could learn a thing or two from the Bunny
Ranch.
"There are two things people want: a good
deal and people to be nice to them. It's
customer service," Amy said.
"You just have to take care of your
business," another brothel employee Anna Mills
said. "You have to take care of people.
You have to take care of customers. You
have to give them more. You have to make
sure that they know that you appreciate their
business. It's about being personal."
Hof says he doesn't expect to receive the
money he's asking for, but he hopes that
Washington will see that bailouts in general,
aren't necessary.
I jokingly say we need this billion dollars
because the girls need their tattoos
freshened-up and they need makeovers, but the
reality of it is, let's just work harder," he
said. "This is America. We know how to
work. We're hard-working people.
Let's just work harder, brab it by the
bootstraps, do it the Nevada way. Work
hard and it will work out."
